Yao is director general of the Research Institute of Banking and Finance, the People’s Bank of China. Prior to his appointment to the Research Institute, Yao served in various positions in the Department of Monetary Policy and Department of Monetary Policy II, of the PBC since 2009. From 2005-09 Yao was deputy director general of the Department of Commerce and Bureau of Investment Promotion of Heilongjiang Province. From 2001-05, he was an economist at International Monetary Fund. Before arriving at IMF, Yao was a consultant at World Bank from 2000- 01. He has published many articles on a wide variety of economic issues, including monetary policy and international finance. He received a PhD degree in Economics in 2001 from the University of Cambridge in the USA.
姚余栋，辽宁沈阳辽中县人，1995年1月参加工作，英国剑桥大学经济学 系研究生毕业 ，”经济学博士学位”。现任中国人民银行金融研究所所长。1995年7月-1995年10月国家经贸委企业司科员，1995年10月-1997年7月剑桥大学经济学专业硕士研究生，1997年7月-2000年12月剑桥大学经济学专业经济学博生，2000年12月-2001年7月世界银行咨询顾问，2001年10月-2005年4月国际货币基金组织经济学家，2005年4月-2009年1月黑龙江省招商局副局长（聘任）、党组成员，2009年1月-2009年2月黑龙江省招商局副局长、党组成员，2009年2月-2009年11月黑龙江省商务厅副厅长、党组成员，2009年11月-2011年11月中国人民银行货币政策二司副巡视员，2011年11月-2015年1月中国人民银行货币政策司副司长。
